This document includes detailed insights on HMRC TRE and its implications.

What Is HMRC TRE?

The Trade Reporting and Extracting Service (TRE) is a new HMRC online platform launching in 2025.It allows UK importers and exporters to access their customs declaration data directly from the source, quickly, securely, and at no cost.TRE replaces the previous Management Support System (MSS) and the manual CDS data request process.Instead of paying for monthly reports or submitting requests, you can now log in via Government Gateway and retrieve your data on demand.

What Data Can You Access?

TRE provides:- Monthly customs declaration reports- Both imports and exports- Data from CHIEF and CDS systems- Downloadable files (CSV/Excel)- Standard formats including Import Header, Item, Tax Lines, and Export reportsReports are generated on request and typically ready within 48 hours.

Key Benefits of TRE

✅ Free: No subscription or per-report fees

✅ Faster: On-demand reports, not fixed schedules

✅ Easier: Access via your existing Government Gateway login

✅ More complete: Combined data from both CHIEF and CDS

✅ More control: Manage third-party access directly in the portal.

How to Access TRE

To use TRE, you’ll need:1. A valid EORI number2. An active Customs Declaration Service (CDS) registration via Government Gateway3. Login to your account and navigate to “Trade Reporting and Extracting Service”Once inside the portal, you can:- Request and download declaration reports- Set up email alerts for when reports are ready- Manage permissions for third-party access (e.g. your broker or Customs IX).

Can Customs IX Use TRE Data?

At launch, TRE does not offer an API. Data must be downloaded manually via the portal. However:- You can authorise Customs IX as a third party to retrieve reports on your behalf- Once downloaded, your TRE data can be uploaded into Customs IX for deeper analysis, risk management, duty reclaim checks, and audit purposesWe’re actively monitoring HMRC’s plans for future API access (expected from 2026) and will provide updates as integrations become possible.
